RIX GEAR is a small but initiative enterprise
focusing on timelapse photography gears.
RIX GEAR was founded by four partners,
a bio-medical engineer, two medical doctors, and an architect.
They share photo trips on holidays.
The engineer and the architect
are currently working full time at RIX GEAR.
RIX GEAR fills gaps between technicians and users.
Its products are easy-to-use
freeing photographers from pitfalls and hazards
letting them focus on creativity.
Beyond mechanical and software solutions,
effort is put in product design and ergonomic design
to correspond to user behavior and timelapse intuition workflow.
The initiative idea of making a motion control slider
occured after RIX GEAR partners experienced difficulties
in using motion-control sliders :
- setup/breakdown a slider is time-consuming
- too many parts to carry in several separate bags
- poor user interface - deeply nested menu
- requiring a 3rd party tool to do synch bramping.
Using a moco slider for the first time,
setup process made them miss a sunset timelapse session.
For the second time, they catched it
but with incorrrect setting.
After the thrid session, they decided to make their own motion-control slider.
Their first DIY slider has become the prototype of RIX GEAR XE sliders.
Most features are developed on software
so that users enjoy new capabilities by just updating firmware
rather buying new hardware/controller.
Even though RIX GEAR development emphasizes on software,
add-on peripherals are under development such as 3-axis pan/tilt modules
as well as live brampers for Holy Grail timelapses.
